bwindi t-shirt
We have developed the Bwindi t-shirt in collaboration with the Friends of The Bwindi Community Health Centre Charity. The t-shirt is the same shape as our Lana t-shirt but is made from a luxurious grey organic cotton blended with spandex for a beautiful fit. 100% of the profits of this t-shirt will be going to the charity whose sole purpose is to raise money to buy a new ambulance for the Bwindi Community Health Centre.
BCHC is located on the edge of the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest in south-west Uganda. It provides health care to some of the poorest people in the world, including the Batwa Pygmies who were displaced from the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest after it became a National Park to protect Mountain Gorillas. In this area malnutrition, malaria, HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and diarrhoea are the biggest killers.
The area surrounding the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest is fertile and mountainous. The bumpy mud roads demand careful, sometimes precarious negotiation. The Health Centre owns one Landrovers which is very old. It is used once or twice a week to visit clinics in remote Batwa Pygmy villages when more than 80 people await its arrival. Patients who are very ill are then transported back to the Health Centre for live-saving treatment. Once every three months a trip is made to Kampala (9 hours away) to collect drugs, medical equipment and other supplies. A fully equipped new ambulance will help save many more lives and will save the health centre money in maintenance and fuel.
